How I Research And Write
Where the numbers on this site come from, how they are checked, and what to do if one is wrong.
Do I Use AI To Write These Pages?
Yes. I use AI tools to research and draft. Every figure is checked against the source it cites, and the numbers about my own communities come from my own dashboards.
Where Do My Own Numbers Come From?
From the Insights tab that Reddit gives moderators, and from Ahrefs reports on the subreddits I run. I screenshot them, publish the screenshots unedited where they show only my own data, and put the date on the capture. Reddit mod Insights is a snapshot, so the figures move. When a number is read off a chart rather than a data export, the page says so.
What Is The byOG AI Citation Study?
A repeatable test of how often AI answers cite a Reddit thread. I run everyday buyer questions through ChatGPT search and other engines, phrased two ways: neutrally, and as a request for the experience of people who did the thing. Then I count the answers that cite Reddit. The method, the question set and the results are in the October 2026 study, and I treat the numbers as a snapshot of one day, not a law.
What Is The AI Visibility Tracker?
The tracker is the same idea pointed at my own subreddits: a fixed list of everyday questions that never mention Reddit, run through AI engines, logging whether an answer cites a thread from a community I moderate. It is also what I log monthly for clients. How Do I Check My Brand's AI Visibility? shows how to do it yourself.
How Do I Gather Fresh Data?
Live web research through Grok, which reads the current web, X and Reddit. Every figure it returns is kept with its source on file, so I can go back and see where a number came from before it goes on a page.
How Do I Fact-Check A Claim?
Rules and features are checked against the official pages: Reddit's help center and policies, Google's documentation, and OpenAI and Perplexity's own pages. If I cannot find the claim in a source I can open, it does not go on the page. Third-party statistics link to where they were published.
What Are My White-Hat Rules?
I do not recommend secondary accounts, bought upvotes, karma farming or fake customer posts, and I say why they backfire. The short version is on the About page.
How Do Corrections Work?
If you spot an error, tell me through the audit form, naming the page and the claim. I check it against the source, fix the page if you are right, and I will not leave a wrong number up to save face.
