Brand Subreddit Build And Moderation

A subreddit you own, run by someone who moderates seven of them. Setup, daily moderation, posting and the people who keep it alive.

Three of the subreddits I moderate support travel businesses I own. r/galapagostourism went from zero to 200+ members, 12 qualified leads and $1,500 in sales in its first 30 days, with no ad spend. It has since passed 1,000 members, and its mega thread sits on page one of Google for "cruises to galapagos islands". That is the job this page sells, done for your brand instead of mine.

Who Needs A Brand Subreddit?

Brands whose customers already talk to each other before they buy. Travel, software, hobby gear, finance, food, anything with a research phase and a lot of "has anyone tried this?" questions. If the thread is going to happen anyway, you can either watch it happen in someone else's subreddit or host it.

It also fits a company that has tried posting in other people's communities and keeps getting removed. A subreddit you own is the one place where you set the rules, so how much open promotion fits is your call, within Reddit's own rules.

Should You Create A Subreddit For Your Business?

Sometimes, yes. Reddit reported 514.6 million weekly active uniques in Q2 2026, and a Reddit and WPP study of 13,000+ users found 77% visit two or more communities to validate a purchase. People are checking you out there either way.

But the question "should I" has a catch. A subreddit is a daily job, not a launch. An empty, unmoderated one is worse than none, because it reads as a brand nobody cares about. If you cannot commit to moderation every day for at least six months, do not create it. If you can, or you pay someone who can, it can become an asset that shows up in Google and in AI answers.

I wrote down the first 30 days in full in How To Grow A Subreddit. You can run that playbook yourself. This service is for people who would rather hand it over.

What Does byOG Build And Run For You?

Everything below is part of the base program. One subreddit, built properly and moderated every day.

  • Name and positioning: a name people search for, a description in the words they use, rules, banner, icon and sidebar, checked on old and new Reddit
  • Daily moderation: removals, modmail, the queue, replies to every early comment
  • 3 to 4 discussion posts a week: real questions that start conversations, not announcements
  • Disclosed brand account: posting and answering in 3 to 5 other communities, openly as your brand, within each community's rules
  • Volunteer mod recruiting and training: a second mod from day zero, so the asset survives a locked account
  • Wiki and FAQ pages: written around the searches people make about your brand
  • Monthly buyer-insights report and a call with me: what members asked, what they objected to, what to change in your product pages

How Does The Build Work?

Week 0AuditWhere your buyers already talk
Week 1SetupName, rules, look, second mod
Weeks 2-4Weekly posts3 to 4 discussions, fast replies
Month 2AuthorityWiki, pinned resource, AutoMod
Month 3+CompoundVolunteers, AI questions, reports

It starts with the free Reddit audit: I look at where your buyers talk, which subreddits matter and whether a brand subreddit makes sense at all. If it does not, I say so.

The first 30 days are linkless. No pitch, no product links, a sidebar line saying who runs the community and why. Promotion comes later through a pinned resource post, the sidebar and a welcome message. For rules and automation I use AutoModerator; see the AutoModerator guide for how that works.

What Has This Produced So Far?

These are my numbers, not client numbers, and I want that clear. r/GoingToPeru, r/TravelEcuador and r/galapagostourism support travel businesses I own (mytrip2ecuador.com). I have not yet published results for a client subreddit, so I will not pretend I have.

  • r/GoingToPeru: October 2025 to September 2026, 876,000 views, about 14,200 average monthly uniques, 3,500 members (+3,100), peak of roughly 195,000 visits in July 2026
  • r/TravelEcuador: 0 to 1,000 members in 8 months
  • r/AISEOforBeginners: 0 to 5,000 members in 6 months
  • r/OCryptoCanada: 0 to 1,000 members in 6 months

Who Should Not Hire This?

Not a fit

You need sales this month. You want posts that hide who wrote them. You cannot take public criticism in a thread with your name on it. You want upvotes bought or a second account to seed comments.

A fit

You can wait six months for a compounding asset. You are fine saying "this is our subreddit" out loud. You have real customers and a real product people ask questions about.

My takeMost brand subreddits die because the brand treats it like a billboard. The ones that work look like a forum run by a helpful employee, because that is what they are.

What Does Daily Moderation Actually Involve?

More than people expect, and less glamorous. Each day there is a queue of posts and comments to approve or remove, modmail to answer, reports to read and new members to welcome. In r/Smokingmeat, which I moderate, that meant 956 posts and 3,600 comments removed over the past 12 months. A brand subreddit is smaller, but the habit is the same: someone looks at it every day.

The rules are what make the community worth reading. Clear rules, applied evenly, with a short note explaining each removal, keep a place useful and keep newcomers from feeling ambushed. AutoModerator handles the repeat offenders, such as link spam and low-effort posts, so a human only sees the judgement calls. I also keep an eye on the posts that rise fast, because in my view the first hour of comments sets the tone of a thread, and I want to be in it answering.

Criticism of your brand will show up. In a subreddit you own, I do not delete honest criticism. I answer it in the open, with a disclosed account, and fix the thing if the criticism is right. A community that can see you take a hit well trusts you more, and that trust is the whole asset.

What Do I Need To Provide?

Less than you would think. I need access to someone who knows your product well enough to answer a hard question, a decision-maker for the monthly call, and your permission to say who runs the community. I also need real customer language: support emails, reviews and sales questions tell me what to post about.

You also have to accept the pace. A new subreddit looks quiet for the first weeks, and that is normal. In my own communities, passing 1,000 members took 6 to 8 months. If you want a fast result, read the list of who should not hire this and be straight with yourself about which side you are on.

What Does It Cost?

Brand subreddit build and moderation is part of the program from $5,000/month, with a six month minimum and month to month after that. Price goes up with more subreddits, markets or languages, and with posting volume. The full program and pricing are on the homepage. The related work lives on the community management and Reddit SEO pages.

Questions About Brand Subreddit Build And Moderation

How do I build a brand subreddit?

Pick a name people search for, write rules and a description in their words, add a banner and a second moderator, then post one real discussion a day for the first 30 days without links. Keep promotion to a pinned resource post and the sidebar.

Can you make money from owning a subreddit?

I would not count on Reddit paying you for it. The value I see is indirect: leads, customer insight and visibility in Google and AI answers. r/galapagostourism produced 12 qualified leads and 3 sales in its first 30 days with no ad spend.

Do I own the subreddit?

Yes. I set it up under accounts you control and add you as a moderator, with a second trusted mod from the start, so you are never locked out.

How long before it works?

In r/TravelEcuador and r/OCryptoCanada, passing 1,000 members took 8 and 6 months. Some moved faster: r/AISEOforBeginners reached 5,000 in 6 months. That is why the minimum is six months.

Do you use fake accounts to start conversations?

No. Early comments come from real people: invited contributors, your customers and your team posting under their own names.
