On 20 October 2026 I ran 25 everyday questions through ChatGPT search and Grok. None of them mentioned Reddit. That makes 50 answers. Five of them cited a thread from one of my subreddits.
Five of fifty is a small number, and I am going to treat it like one. It is also what makes this a service I can sell: a method that measures, with the same questions each month, so you can see movement instead of taking my word for it.
What Is Reddit GEO, And Why Does It Matter?
GEO is generative engine optimisation: making sure AI assistants find and cite your brand when someone asks a question. The Reddit angle is that Reddit is where a lot of those answers come from. Peec AI's March 2026 study found Reddit was the most cited domain across 30 million US citations in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews. Reddit also has data deals behind it: Google in February 2024 (reported at about $60 million a year) and OpenAI in May 2024.
I go deeper on each assistant in separate guides: how ChatGPT uses Reddit, whether Perplexity cites Reddit and Reddit in Google AI Overviews.
How Does The Monthly Tracker Work?
Fixed buyer questions. We agree on 25 questions your customers really ask, the kind of thing they would type before buying. The list stays the same month to month, so changes mean something.
Never mention Reddit. If you ask "what does Reddit say about X", of course it cites Reddit. A real customer does not do that. The test is whether an everyday question ends up at one of your threads on its own.
Run by API. ChatGPT search (gpt-5.4-mini with web search) and Grok get the same questions on every run. I log which thread was cited, in which answer.
What Did The First Run Show?
ChatGPT cited r/TravelEcuador for "Ecuador travel advice from people who have been" and r/OCryptoCanada for "Where do Canadians talk about crypto investing?". Grok cited r/GoingToPeru for "Peru travel tips from people who have been", and r/TravelEcuador plus r/galapagostourism for the Ecuador question.
One snapshot, 50 answers, my own subreddits, questions that happen to match communities I run. AI answers change from run to run. I am not claiming a rate you will get. The point of the tracker is to measure your number against your own baseline.
What Do You Get?
- 25 tracked AI questions logged every month, with the cited threads
- Threads and wiki pages built to answer those exact questions in your communities
- A disclosed brand account answering in 3 to 5 relevant subreddits
- A monthly buyer-insights report and a call with me
- On request, a larger question set or brand-mention monitoring (priced separately)
The tracker sits on top of real community work, covered on the brand subreddit and Reddit SEO pages. Without threads that deserve to be cited, there is nothing to measure.
What Is This Not?
It is not a guarantee of citations. Nobody controls what ChatGPT, Grok or Perplexity decide to cite, and anyone who promises a ranking is guessing. It is not prompt stuffing, fake threads or accounts posing as customers. Those tend to get removed, and a removed thread cannot be cited.
My takeGEO sold as a trick will not last. What lasts is a real answer from a real, disclosed person in a community that people keep using.
How Do Threads Get Cited Without Saying Reddit?
My working theory, from what I have observed: an assistant looks for pages that answer the exact question, in the words the user used. A thread titled like the question, with specific answers from people who have actually done the thing, matches that better than a brand blog post. My guess is that r/GoingToPeru got cited for "Peru travel tips from people who have been" because the community is literally people sharing what they did.
That is why the work is community work, not markup work. I write thread titles in the shape of real questions, keep the best answers in a pinned resource, and make sure the wiki says plainly what your brand does and for whom. I cannot see inside these models. What I can do is run the same questions every month and see what moved.
My takeMost GEO advice is guesswork wearing a dashboard. A tracker with fixed questions will at least tell you whether anything you did made a difference.
Which Questions Belong In The Tracker?
Questions a buyer would type before spending money, phrased the way a person talks. Compare "best cruise to the Galapagos for a first-timer" with "Galapagos cruise operators". The first is real. The second is how marketers think.
- Advice questions: "Ecuador travel advice from people who have been"
- Where-do-people-talk questions: "Where do Canadians talk about crypto investing?"
- Comparison and decision questions: the ones that sit right before a purchase
We pick the 25 together in the first week, and I flag any that are too generic to ever be answered by a community thread. You can swap a few each quarter, but the core set stays fixed, or the trend means nothing.
What Does The Monthly Report Look Like?
A short table: each question, each assistant, whether a thread of yours was cited, which one, and what changed since last month. Under it, a few lines on what I changed in the communities and what I plan next. If a month shows nothing, the report says nothing. I will not dress up a flat month.
What Does It Cost?
The 25-question tracker is included in the program from $5,000/month (six month minimum, then month to month). A larger question set or brand-mention monitoring raises the price. See the pricing on the homepage, or start with the free audit and we can talk about which questions would belong in your set.
Questions About Reddit AI Visibility (GEO)
What is Reddit GEO?
Generative engine optimisation through Reddit: building useful, disclosed answers in communities so AI assistants find and cite those threads when your customers ask their questions.
Does ChatGPT use Reddit?
In my tracker it did. ChatGPT search cited threads from my subreddits for two everyday questions without Reddit being mentioned. Peec AI also found Reddit the most cited domain across 30 million US citations in March 2026.
Which AI tools do you track?
ChatGPT search (gpt-5.4-mini with web search) and Grok, run by API with the same question set each month.
Why never mention Reddit in the questions?
Because real buyers do not. The test is whether an everyday question leads to your thread unprompted.
Can you promise citations?
No. AI answers change between runs. I track a fixed question set monthly so you can see your own trend.
